Love and Other Disasters... Yet wardrobe malfunction was never an issue...

For my first informative post, I'd like to pay tribute to the lovely flick "Love and Other Disasters." This 2006 romantic comedy sets in the UK, where the clothes are reminiscent of a certain Audrey Hepburn movie... One can only aspire to look as sophisticated as Michele Clapton had worked Brittany Murphy's wardrobe to be. Michele won two awards for Best Costume Design, making her one of my favorite costume designer.

Beginning with the simplistic wedding outfit of a white t-shirt and white jeans, you can pick up a white t-shirt nearly anywhere. Try
Gap for a nice fit. The white denims can be found virtually anywhere as well, although Paper has a strikingly similar pair on Bluefly. And of course, you can't go wrong with a pair of nude shoes... Enzo Angiolini may just have the pair your closet has been lusting for. Grab your double hoop earrings and recreate the scene (maybe just not out in public)...

Now, the adorable dress from their night out was a toughie to find... Here is one option (of a bondage quality), another you can find here (brocade, rather than beaded), a Chloe option (a bit scaley), and perhaps the closest dress I found was this Maisey shift from Everystyle.

There is a similar
Coach tote, that will carry all of your day's necessities, although her's appears to be of a Dooney and Bourke lineage. Try something in the rich chocolate brown with leather trimings. Just remember to pack it away on a rainy day! No need to ruin your bag because you forgot to switch out.
Her shoes appear to be a creation that only Christian Louboutin could have created... Jimmy Choo makes a great platform pump that adds a nice touch of glamor, as well.

In one of the more casual-dressed scenes, where Peter and 'Jacks' are mesmerized by Audrey Hepburn's "Breakfast at Tiffany's," she sports a laid-back pair of leggings and an over-sized t-shirt. The leggings can be spotted in other scenes throughout the movie.

In the scene where she is confiding about Paolo to her friend, Jack's top is both conservative and sexy. One option I'd like to suggest is finding a top that already has some beading, special draping or interesting pattern, so that you can skip the jewelry. For those of you with a smaller bust line, a nice ruffle can add some volume on top and paired with a skinny pencil skirt, can be a great date outfit.

One of my favorite outfits had to have been the tango
outfit, with her headband, classy black dress and stunning black pumps. You can easily find a headband with a sparkly brooch, to add an additional pizazz or keep it simple in a solid color. The little black dress is something that should be a wardrobe staple, by now, but having two or three different options is always nice.
The black pump can be found at nearly any store at nearly any price. To me, pumps need to be comfortable. I would recommend a platform, if you want to go for height without sacrificing your back (you can counteract the height of the heel with a taller platform). But I like to go for a cushioning heel from a brand known for comfort. Cole Haan and Nike have partnered up to bring the best of style and comfort into one shoebox.

  1. Do you have any idea who the designer for Murphy's beaded dress is? I've been searching for weeks!
